As part of the latest tools rollout, IBM delivered a statment of direction related to performance amd storage management DB2 UDB for z/OS. Basically IBM is going to develop new products in the area of performance monitoring and performance expert, as well as certain aspects of storage management handled by SMU functions. The new products will be based on forerunner products. For detail on the statement of direction, read the whole statement in the announcement letter.
New and enhanced DB2 and IMS tools scheduled for delivery by December 17, 2004 consist of:
New products include:

Are you beginning to investigate tuning and capacity aspects of DB2 V8? Did you know there is an excellent new IBM Redbook DB2 II: Performance Monitoring, Tuning and Capacity Planning Guide, published November 2004. To obtain a downloaded PDF copy, click here. Several chapters of this Redbook immediately draw one's attention; such as, 'Key performance drivers of DB2 II V8.2', 'DB2 II V8.2 performance enhancements', and 'DB2 II EXPLAIN facility with DB2 Information Integrator'.
DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8 has introduced two new subsystem wide utilities, BACKUP and
RESTORE, which, by interfacing the copy pools functions of DFSMS 1.5, are able to provide
Point-In-Time recovery capabilities.
The disaster recovery solution consists of the combination of coherent options that best
fit in with the requirements, the current environment, and the investment. In the new IBM
Redbook, Disaster Recovery for DB2 UDB for z/OS V8, they first introduce
the main concepts, and the primary components for possible solutions. Then they describe
the most common solutions, and implement several recovery scenarios. All the tests were
implemented with DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8. They also include criteria for choosing a
solution, and recommendations based on recovery best practices. To obtain a downloaded PDF

Another new IBM Redbook, WebSphere for z/OS Connectivity Architectural Choices, gives
a broad understanding of architectural choices you may have when designing an IT
infrastructure containing WebSphere Application Server for z/OS and one or more back-end
systems. The back-end systems they deal with are CICS, IMS, MQ and DB2. Chapter two of
this book focuses on DB2 connectivity options.
For each connectivity choice they discuss its attributes, namely the performance,
security, availability, transactional capabilities and scalability. To obtain a downloaded
copy, click here.
This IBM Redbook focuses on the considerations and methodology for transitioning from
IBM Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) Version 9.4 to IBM DB2 Universal Database Version 8.2.
The book addresses the basic topic areas of data, applications, and administration. It
includes an overview of the architecture of the two products to give you a better
understanding of how they are structured. To obtain a download copy, click here.
