What is a Migration AssistancePac?

A Migration AssistancePac (MAP) is equivalent to our prior offering, a Migration Support Kit. It is available for those organizations that do not fit the existing MSK candidacy program requirements. Such as, companies located outside of the United States and those companies not covered by the existing IBM Business Partner MSK program.

The differences are the MAP offering comes with one-half day of consulting services to train the users on the MAP content, usage, and to perform final customization of the content.

MAPs are available for IBM’s DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ for z/OS, and z/OS products just as the formerly offered Migration Support Kits (MSK). It still comes in three delivery options: MS Project, EXCEL, and native HTML. The MS Project option is the most functionally rich.

The selected file(s) will be delivered via email to you. If you select the additional ½ day consulting component, the MAP will be delivered on CD as a MS Project file with a MS Project Viewer provided. So you do not have to have MS Project to view and use the MAP.  You only need to use MS Project when you wish to make changes and revisions to the MAP.

Version to version MAPs are available from your IBM Business Partner[1], under their old name of MSK and are ordered via the Business Partner’s web site as they were before.

Directly from MCE, you can obtain a MAP for any release to any release of the aforementioned products, and optionally have the one-half day consulting services addition (remotely or on-site) for a small fee.

If you wish to obtain a no charge MAP but have no relationship with the named IBM Business Partners1, you can either request MCE to make a site visit on their behalf and establish a business relationship with you, or you may contact any existing IBM Business Partner you currently do business with and ask them to provide the MAP to you through the MCE Business Alliance Program.

Acquiring a Migration AssistancePac

The site visit and ordering of a MAP (or MSK) should be done approximately two to three weeks prior to ordering the IBM software product. The MAP or MSK contain a series of tasks to ensure the product order goes in correctly and covers preparation work requiring completion prior to receiving the IBM installation media.

To order a MAP, use this link:

To order a MSK through one of the aforementioned IBM Business Partners, use the MSK ordering facility on their web sites or contact them to order.
