What are Migration Assistance PACs?

The basis of the Migration Assistance Pac is a project plan showing all required tasks to accomplish a successful migration. 

 

The Migration Assistance PAC (MAP) is equivalent to the prior Migration Support Kits (MSK). 

 

It is an install and migration plan with built in "how to" support.  This support is provided if the user of the MAP is using the migration plan on a WEB connected PC.

Each task in the plan has a "show me" column item that when clicked will cause the user to be taken to the correct page in IBM or non-IBM documentation and/or migration materials that discuss the why and how for that task.

This one feature replaces much of what the old time IBM SE performed for a customer.

Other things that make the MAP powerful above just a migration plan is the customization we do to add 3rd party products that effect the migration, and to establish task times based on the skill levels of the identified migration staff. 

 

Why do you need it? Do you have the time to create a comprehensive install and migration plan? Do you need to do the ISV compatibility research for your new IBM product release level? How much of your time is burned doing these chores? Would you like some national average task time estimates based on skill levels of the assigned technical staff?

 

In the MAP order form, check the optional services you would care to include in the MAP order. This includes the optional 1/2 day consulting service to perform a remote walkthrough of the MAP project plan, and the optional onsite addon for this 1/2 day consulting service.  

 

Upon receipt of the MAP order, MCE will send an electronic invoice to the ordering party for the basic MAP fee of $350 plus any optional services indicated on the MAP order unless you have a relationship with VICOM INFINITY. If you have such a relationship, enter VILB01 into the "Free Code" box on the MAP order form.   

 

You may request a MAP from any version/release to any current version/release. As example, you might indicate you wish to migrate from CICS 1.3, CICS TS 2.2, or CICS TS 2.3 to CICS TS 3.1.  

 

Indicate this Version to Version Information in the Skills & Staffing Section of the Order Form.

When you request an order for one of the MAPs, we will download an EXCEL spreadsheet form to you that is a follow the buttons form. Just click the buttons in sequence, answer the presented questions, and return to us via the email send function contained in the Excel form or fax a hardcopy to us at 352-799-7956.

 

If your business restricts download acceptance of EXCEL files from outside of the organization, you may request a copy of the appropriate order form to be emailed to you by sending a request to y2kdon@msn.com.

 

Remember to add the from version and to version information in the Skills & Staffing Section of the Order Form.

In the body of the email created on the SEND FORM function, enter any other information you feel would be relevant. 

 

By not providing any answers for the optional product and staffing sections of the MAP order request form, we will send you a generic MAP that is complete but not specifically tailored to your environment.  

 

We have had problems reported by users of Lotus Notes and Lotus Smart Suites that the form failed on the SEND function. If you experience problems writing to the form or sending it, just print a hardcopy, handwrite the info (if necessary), and then fax it to the number listed above.  

 

Note that to properly use the HTML version of a MAP, you should be at IE 6.1 level.
